D-MANNOSE - WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
D-mannose is a simple sugar that is closely related to glucose. It is often used as a supplement to help prevent and treat urinary tract infections (UTIs). When taken orally, D-mannose is metabolized only very slightly by the body, and most of it is excreted in the urine. Because of this, it can coat the walls of the urinary tract and prevent certain types of bacteria, such as E. coli, from adhering to the urinary tract walls. This can help to flush out these bacteria and reduce the risk of infection. D-mannose is generally considered safe when taken in recommended doses, but it can cause some side effects such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. It is also not recommended for people with certain medical conditions, such as those with a history of kidney stones, should speak to their healthcare provider before taking D-mannose.
